The latest Goldin Elite Auction held in August was like a gold rush for sports memorabilia enthusiasts, with high-end modern cards and collectibles fetching staggering prices. Leading the pack was a PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan rookie card that broke records by selling for an impressive $244,000, setting a new standard for that particular grade.
The frenzy didn’t stop there, as another Jordan rookie card, this time a PSA 7 version, raked in $62,000 on eBay. The demand for Jordan’s first NBA licensed trading card seems to be reaching new heights, with a PSA 6.5 version also fetching a hefty sum of $52,460 in the same auction.
Among the standout items was a one-of-a-kind 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card of MLB sensation Mike Trout. Despite facing injury setbacks in recent seasons, the card graded PSA 9 fetched an impressive $192,030.
In the realm of baseball cards, records were shattered for two players with a 2011 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Bryce Harper card (#5/5) graded PSA 9 selling for a whopping $184,720, and a 2014 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Mookie Betts card (#3/5) graded PSA 10 earning $123,220.
The auction also saw the limelight shifting to unique SuperFractor cards, with the 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed SuperFractor Elly De La Cruz PSA 10 going under the hammer for $116,534, and a Jackson Holliday SuperFractor PSA 10 fetching $68,527 – both setting public price records for the respective players.
However, the real surprise came with a dual autograph Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor from 2023-24 Topps UEFA that sold for a noteworthy $67,100 after receiving a PSA 9 grade. The card, originally pulled by a collector in England, made its way to Goldin at the London Card Show, adding to the global allure of the auction.
Shifting the focus to memorabilia, Travis Kelce’s 2020-21 Super Bowl LV jersey, linked by photographs to the Kansas City Chiefs’ unfortunate loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stole the show by securing a winning bid of $52,460. Alongside, Kelce’s AFC Championship ring from the same season found a new owner for $34,404.
Further enriching the memorabilia side of the auction was an Aaron Judge 2017 rookie season jersey, photomatched to one of his memorable 52 home runs, which commanded an impressive $51,240.
Rounding up the top sales were notable items like the 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes RPA (#77/99) that went for $95,770, the 2018 Bowman Orange Refractor Shohei Ohtani card (#22/75) in a PSA 9 condition reaching $74,450, a 1996 Mariano Rivera game-used jersey photomatched to eight trading cards at $51,240, and two 1969 Topps Football wax boxes fetching $32,940 and $31,721 respectively.
With such remarkable results, the August Elite Auction at Goldin’s showcased the unwavering excitement surrounding both vintage and modern collectibles, culminating in record-breaking sales for prized sports memorabilia that continue to captivate collectors worldwide.
